Country type horse gram is a traditional, highly resilient dry-land pulse native to South Asia. Often referred to locally as kulthi, kollu, or gahat, local landraces feature small, flattened, reddish-brown to dark seeds known for exceptional drought hardiness, high protein and calcium content, and earthy, medicinal properties in regional diets.
